Character Day

Today is character day at school. The children were to dress as their favorite character. How exciting it must be for all the kids at school, for Donny it's just a regular day. His favorite person lately is George Washington, so it was no surprise what he wanted to wear today. He has been bugging me for awhile to buy/make him a white wig. I finally broke down and decided to make the boy a wig. Before I could start I had to fix my model who was beheaded in a freak karate incident. Barbie's head has been replaced twice with superglue, so I decided to use a different method. Her head is now attached with Gorilla tape, which is also doubling as a choker. Abigail was quite happy about her new necklace.

Once the shower cap was in place, the wig to shape quite quickly. I was so excited because I knew Donny would look adorable. He also requested a three cornered hat like George's. He has studied George's portraits and loves the one with George standing in front of his white horse. I made the hat out of felt, but didn't size it with the wig so when he put them on together it didn't work so well.

Imagine my surprise this morning when Donny told me he didn't want to wear the wig and hat I made. I knew it was coming. He did allow me to take his photo. I forgot to mention that I didn't notice my spoon/sword until I was helping him buckle his seat.

In the end, he went to school wearing the same outfit he wears around the house. I thought he looked so cute, but more like a Union solider than George Washington. I decided to keep that to myself.
