Rainy Day

Big Daddy and Donny were in the basement for quite awhile. When they returned, Donny showed me a "baby mask" they made.

HANNNAH!

Donny thinks if he screams at the television Hannah will be able to hear him. He wants to know why she never answers his questions. Please Lord don't let his bubble pop, I love his little world.

What Are You Wearing?

Yesterday morning, I decided we needed to get out of the house and do a little shopping. I rallied the troops for an outing. I put Donny's clothes on his bed and left him to dress himself. Abigail was dressed and wandering around the house while I gathered our coats. I called the kids to the front door. Abigail rounded the corner wearing a long piece of toilet paper around her neck like a scarf. Her brother followed her, dressed but his clothes were on backward. I knew if I were to mess with either outfit I would probably encounter a meltdown, so I put coats on and off we went. Pick your battles.

Not Here For Me

Big Daddy and I thought Abigail might have an ear infection because she has been falling down quite a bit and she still has a fever. I couldn't get an appointment until the afternoon, so Donny had to come with us. As we walked through the door at the office, Donny announced we were not there for him because he wasn't sick, but his sister was, so the doctor was going to look at her only. All the ladies behind the glass window were bent over with laughter. When the nurse opened the door for us, he made sure she knew he had nothing to do with this appointment. Then he proceeded to question her motives toward his sister, shots were his main concern. She reassured Donny the doctor would just look in Abigail's ears and when he did he found an ear infection. As we were walking out the door, Donny stopped and asked the doctor why do dogs eat soup. Doctor didn't know, so Donny told him, because they are hungry. I have no idea where he got that joke, but he made me laugh.

Disney

Okay, I have always had a problem with Disney movies, so this is my fault. Tonight I watched Mulan with Donny. I thought things were going well. He didn't seem upset and asked questions throughout the movie. Most of the questions were about the culture, what are they eating with, what are they wearing, etc. The real questions started when I tucked Donny in bed. "Why are bad guys bad? Why do they want to hurt people? Do they have keys to little boys and girls houses'?" I tried my best to reassure him that the movie is pretend and that the bad guys were made by a pencil and piece of paper. When I was leaving his room he asked me to lock his door. I hope this doesn't have a lasting effect on him.

Wake Up

At some point during the night, Donny slipped under the covers next to me. In the morning, he jumped out of bed and began a long dialog about ships. "Mama, do you know what kind of ship I want to go on? I want to go on a hotel ship, one with a swimming pool, a really big one! I'll go get my book to show you which one." My head was still on the pillow and I think I managed to open one eye by the time he returned with his book. "Look Mama, here it is, the hotel ship." "Donny please go to the bathroom and tinkle." "Mama, are you telling me to go to head?" "Yes dear, please go to the head and tinkle." "Okay." I think I might move my coffee pot to the side table next to my bed, I'll be ready for the long morning conversation.

3 Down

Abigail, Big Daddy and Donny all have fevers and nagging coughs. So far, I have been able to stay fever free. Three people with fevers, equals a very cranky house.

A Warning

Do not tell the school director how great this winter has been for your son. Do not compare this year's illnesses to last. If you do, you run the risk of your son getting sick just two days after said conversation takes place. Terrible cough and a fever that increases every time I take his temperature. We had a good run.

A Day At Grandma's

Happy birthday Molly! Due to the storm, we used our math skills to figure out Molly's age.
Abigail is ready for cake.

Helpers

Getting everyone in the house after school can sometimes be quite difficult. Yesterday, I brought Donny in the house and went back to the car, where Abigail was still strapped in her seat, to retrieve the groceries. I placed the groceries on the kitchen floor and left Donny sitting on the living room floor. When I returned with Abigail, Donny was calling my name from another room. I put Abigail down to go fetch Donny, who was sitting on top of the washing machine pleading his case on the benefits of a lollipop. (Lollipops are located in the cabinet above the washing machine when available.) I put that fire out and returned to the kitchen to find Abigail sitting next to Ashley's water dish, surrounded by limes and holding two wet limes that she was kindly washing in the water dish. We were in the house a total of three minutes.

Hello Everyone

I have spent the past three days with my eyes glued to the computer. My mother has somehow sucked me into tracing genealogy on Anstery.com. My sister and I spent a bit of time razzing m mother about the time she spent searching for distant relatives. Well let me tell you something, this research is like crack. I can't stop, but the problem is that I have ignored my blog. I'm sorry about that and I promise to start posting again everyday.

Craig Robert Carey

I was reading Donny his bedtime stories tonight when he stopped me and asked, "Mama, who is the author of this book?" I replied, "Craig Robert Carey." "I don't think I've met him before." I sure hope they are discussing authors in school. How does he know these random tid-bits?

Our House

As we pulled into the driveway today, Donny surprised my with his observation of the yard. "Our house doesn't look like our house anymore. Everything is dead. Look at the trees, I want the trees back." I couldn't agree with him more. Enough of winter, I'm ready for spring.

Bad Day

Today was a rough day for the kids. Donny was whacked against the face with a plastic toy by a little boy at school. He has a nice little bruise next to his eye. Abigail tripped and landed face first on the corner of the woodwork which left a large blue pulsing line on her forehead. Thanks to Miss D. for talking me down when I called her in a panic. Both little ones are doing well. Hopefully tomorrow will be a better day. (I took the photos of Abigail before her fall.)

Why Did You Say That?

I took the kids to the fabric store today. Donny wanted to take a walk through the mini-mall when we were finished shopping. There was a fountain in the middle of the mall with a pirate's ship encased in glass in the center of the fountain. Donny thought it was Captain Hook's ship. My bag ripped so we returned to the store for a new bag. The lady who checked us out helped me put the things into a new bag. Donny was telling her about the pirate's ship when all of the sudden he says, "She hits me sometimes." I just about passed out. I informed the lady that I never hit him and she told me, "There was nothing wrong with it in my day." I repeated that I didn't hit him and I didn't know why he would say such a thing. Walking to the car, I told Donny that the woman would think I was a bad mommy because of what he said. That is when he said, "Mama you're not a bad mommy. Abigail is the one who sometimes hits me." I told him that he should be a bit more clear next time and shoved the kids in the care before the police arrived.
