Parade

The weekend started off very cold and rainy, but at least cousin Molly and family were staying for a few days. The rain finally stopped on Sunday and we all got into the car and headed over to the Stormville Flea Market. We were all thrilled to be outside and see a bit of sunshine.  Today was the real beauty, blue skies and sunshine.  Donny marched in the Memorial Day Parade with the Cub Scouts.  I am so very proud of him.  He was the perfect gentleman and really tried to listen to the speakers even though we couldn't hear a word they were saying.

The remainder of the day was spent finally planting flowers. Between the rain and threat of frost, I didn't think the plants would ever get in the ground.

Notice Abigail on the blanket, cousin Molly and Aunt Kee-Kee and Uncle J in the background.

I told Donny to keep his arms at his sides, he took me very seriously.

Garden

I told Abigail to change her clothes and meet me outside to do some gardening.  This is what she chose...

MJ

I apply sunscreen to the kids every morning.  I have a stick in the bathroom that the kids will put on their faces.  Abigail was doing her face when I reminded her to put a little extra on her kiss or birthmark.  I told her I loved the color and didn't want it to get any darker and she replied, "Yea, I don't want to look like Michael Jackson."  She and Donny are still trying to figure out how he changed so much from a little boy.

Arrow

I received quite an earful tonight.  The first topic was the American Indians.  I'm not sure what triggered his irritation but he is not happy with the people who came to this country and stole the Indians' land.  He also gave me a quick history lesson about Ronald Reagan .  We then moved to an archery lesson and he informed me he would probably be on the Olympic team in a few years. Maybe his cousin Molly will show him the ropes, she is very skilled in archery.

Smile

Abigail has been looking forward to today, picture day at school, for quite awhile.   I knew we were going to have issues with her hair because it has been a bit of a fight lately.   She wants to brush out all of her curls and I want to make them bigger.  I thought we reached a compromise this morning, she would do the front and I would do the back.  I left her for a few minutes only to find her in the bathroom brushing the back of her hair.   I thought I'd show her.  So I stormed off pretending to cry and shut myself  in the bathroom.  I waited and waited, thinking she would come to me any minute to say she was sorry.  I got bored after awhile and left.  That's when I heard Big Daddy gasp.  There she was as proud as can be covered in foundation.  "I'm ready for my pictures."  The photo does NOT represent the mess on her face very well.

Pizza

In a week of firsts, Donny ate his first pizza. I found vegan mozzarella that didn't look that horrible and decided to try to make pizza. I thought there would be a better chance of him eating it if he helped make the pizza.  He had so much fun and was so happy with how good it tasted.

Ice Cream

Abigail ate her first ice cream cone on Tuesday. I'd love to know what a large cone looks like because I ordered a small.  We sat in the booth for awhile and I taught her how to lick and turn the cone.  Once she had the technique down we got in the car and headed for home.  "Why were all the people in the ice cream place old ladies?"  I though about it for a minute and realized that she was correct.  Every customer, minus the two of us, were females over 60.  Abigail went back to eating her ice cream cone and then said, "Mama, after I defeat the ice cream world, I'm going to eat this cone."  And she did, she ate the entire thing.

Mother's Day Tea

I attended my last Mother's Day Tea at the most wonderful preschool ever.   I am so sad to see the end of the year creeping up.  My children have had such a wonderful experience in that school, it is the land of rainbows and happiness.  I will say that I was the only mother sporting a giant lavender bow.  Abigail insisted that we both have bows so how could I say no.  Then she told me she was going to make my necklace beautiful by adding to large pearl drop earrings.  I forgot to photograph that but don't worry graduation will be here before you know it and who knows what she will want me to wear.

Teddy

Donny brought a note home from school informing parents the students were to bring a teddy bear to school on Friday.  The note suggested putting Teddy in a plastic bag to protect the bear while traveling to school.  I was afraid I would forget to put Teddy in Donny's backpack tomorrow so I got Teddy ready while Donny was doing his homework.  He took one look at Teddy in the Ziploc and got upset because Teddy couldn't breath.  Donny took care of the situation although I think it defeats the purpose.

Weather

Abigail and I were standing on the porch and I had the key in the door when she told me she needed to go back inside for a minute. I opened the door for her and she disappeared for a short time. When she returned I asked her what was so important and she replied, "I had to change my weather chart, it's going to rain today."

Funny

I unpacked Abigail's lunchbox and everything was gone.  "Good job on your lunch today."  "Don't thank me, thank you."  "What does that mean?"  "You made it!  I just eat it."  "Abigail, how did you get to be so funny?"  "I just came that way."

Hello Monday

It isn't often that I am happy Monday has arrived, but today is one of those happy days.  What a weekend!  Donny woke me up Saturday morning because he was so sick.  He  spiked a fever of 104.6 so I gave him some medicine and put him in a cool bath and he screamed the entire time.  The fever finally came down and he spent the rest of the day in bed. Meanwhile, I had to get Abigail down to the ball field for team pictures.  I found her in her room with a very nice outfit picked out.  "What are you doing?" "Getting ready for my picture." "Where are the clothes I gave you?"  "I don't want to wear that, I want to wear this."  Abigail, we are going to take you t-ball pictures you have to wear your uniform."  We compromised, she would the shirt if she could wear a headband.  Off we went.

Saturday was also the first day of Abigail's dance recital.  The original plan was for the entire family to go watch her dance but that didn't happen.  Donny was devastated because he could watch Abigail dance. Since our tickets were for Saturday, I sent the little piggy off with Daddy and wished her good luck.  A big thank you to all the dance moms who took Big Daddy under their wings.

Donny's' fever finally broke Saturday night.  He did need a couple Albuterol treatments but I think that had more to do with his allergies than the pneumonia.  Abigail performed her last show on Sunday and I did get to watch so Mama was very happy and so proud of my little piggy and her sweet little friends.

Again

Once again what started as seasonal allergies has turned into a case of pneumonia. Donny spiked a fever Tuesday afternoon that hasn't really gone away.  He woke me up at 2:30.  His clothes were wet and his temperature was 104.  A trip to the doctor confirmed my fear.  He is now taking antibiotics and I am hoping he will be back in school on Monday.

Letter

I read Donny a story tonight about a little girl who wrote Abraham Lincoln and replied to her letter.  He instantly wanted to write someone a letter to see if he would get a response.  "Who would you like to write."   He thought for a bit and then said, "Ricky Nelson."  "Sorry buddy he died." "Paul Anka?"  "Sorry, I think he's dead too."  "Roy Orbison?"  "Dead."  "I will think about it tomorrow."  He rolled over and fell asleep.  The good news is that while writing this post I Googled Paul Anka for the proper spelling and realized he is still alive and well. Oops!
