A Gift

March will mark the one year anniversary of Ashley's death and Donny still talks about her everyday. He misses her so much that his heart hurts and he "feels funny" all the time. The first few days the new Kitty was here Donny had terrible feelings of guilt because he was happy to have a new cat and thought Ashley would be upset with him. One night when I was putting him to bed he was having a very hard time dealing with his emotions. As I was trying to console him, he sat up and smiled. Donny is convinced the new Kitty is a gift from Ashley to make him feel better.   I think he might be feeling a bit better everyday.  He wants to name the kitty Lovey.

Skills

Saturday morning Donny asked me if he had school and I told him a small fib and said yes. Big Daddy and I got the kids dressed and told them we were driving them to school. Donny asked if I would stay with him at school for awhile, I agreed to stay with him for awhile. He asked if I would have lunch at school with him, I agreed to have lunch with him.  He looked at me and slowly realized what was happening and said, "It's adventure day!"  He was correct, we were going on an adventure.  We headed to the Barclays Center in Brooklyn to see Disney on ice.  It was a last minute trip. I saw Abigail's face when she saw the commercial and thought it would be a fun day.  I was correct, it was a great day. Donny wasn't to fond of the Lion King scene when the father is killed and asked if we could go before something else bad happened, but he really liked the skaters skills.  Abigail almost cried when Snow White and the Prince were dancing.  I think I teared up about four times just watching the looks on their faces.

Hello Kitty

Last night as I was picking up the living room I saw this face staring at me through the window.  As soon as I made eye contact the crying began and I started to panic.  The last thing we need right now is another cat.  Big Daddy and I started calling the neighbors to find the proper home.  I am pretty certain this little kitty was left on the road and found us.  I'm sure the person who dropped Kitty was probably wearing Nike's. (Facebook Joke)  Anyway, Big Daddy made a nice bed and Kitty did well all night.  We decided to foster Kitty for awhile and hopefully we will find a home.  Kitty does have a new heated home because it is going to be so cold tonight.  If Kitty stays we will need to find a proper name since our other outdoor cat, who also appeared the same way, has taken the name Kitty.

Last Snowman

I have posted several years in a row about the nursery school Snowman Project and the stress that the project usually brings.  I am happy to say this year Abigail and I had a a great time putting together the project.  She knew exactly what she wanted on the paper from the moment she opened her backpack.  Daddy was going to be a fireman, Donny would be Elvis and she and I would be hula girls from the Elvis movie Blue Hawaii.  I just want to make it clear that I don't parade around in a butterfly bikini top and a hula skirt.  We pulled out my fabric tub and found everything we needed from past costumes.

The Other King

Donny's teacher defiantly spent time last week covering Martin Luther King, Jr.  Donny came home Friday with two booklets he made about Dr. King.  Over the past three days we have had to gather and read Donny's booklets. Once my son is aware of a celebration he gives it all he's got.  We were going to honor Dr. King whether we wanted to or not.  This morning while Big Daddy and I were having our coffee, Donny asked if today was the official Marting Luther King holiday. We confirmed that today was indeed the day.  Donny suggested the entire family dress up like the Kings and paint our faces brown to honor Dr. King.  We applauded the suggestion and somehow managed to change the subject.  Wouldn't that be a great family photo?  What can I say? The boy loves a costume.

Don't Judge

Big Daddy and I had way too much fun with the kids this morning.  We told them that if they quickly made their beds and straightened their rooms we would allow them to stay home from school just this one time.  We finally told them about an hour later that school was cancelled due to the weather.  Hee-hee.

New Chapter

We knew the day was coming but it was still a hard day.  The deal was done in December and we told the kids that the fire engine would be going.  However, we were not certain of the particular day.  We received a call at 7:40 in the morning on Wednesday from the transport driver who was two hours away.  Donny was already on his way to school, thank heavens.  I told Abigail the fire engine was going and she sat down and colored a picture for the new owner.  We took her photo and put the picture in the glove compartment and when both kids returned from school the engine was gone.  I think I cried the most, I'm a big baby.  I am much better and I know that we made the correct decision.

Abigail drew this picture of her and Donny in front of the fire engine for the new owner.
Holding her picture before we put it in the glove compartment.

That's me.

King's Day

We celebrated Elvis's birthday on Tuesday with a banana cake.

Noodle Legs

Okay, so we are really mean parents but I crack up every time I watch this video from the day after Christmas. Notice that Donny doesn't drop the bowl.

Photo

I have been trying to upload photos for 24 hours.  I'm not sure why the site won't allow uploads but I will keep trying.

Boots

I allowed Abigail to open the box containing my new boots.  "Mama, these are fabulous. Please put them on."  I put on the boots and modeled them for her to which she replied, "Those are groovy Mama."  I think she has watched too many Brady Bunch episodes.

Best Friends

Abigail and her new best friend Fancy Nancy.  She loves her new doll from Grandma and Grandpa. They quite a bit together and I love listening to Abigail play with Nancy.
