Cousins

We had a very busy week with the cousins and so I really drop the ball with blogging. Here are some pictures from our week of fun.

Candy

Abigail greeted me in the hallway at school filled with excitement.  She insisted on going through her backpack in the middle of a crowd of parents and children muttering something about a lollipop or candy. I convinced her to move the operation to the car where we wouldn't get crushed by little munchkins.  Once in the car the search continued.  Papers were flying and more muttering.  I finally stopped her.  "Abigail.  What are you looking for?"  "My lollygagging.  I want my candy.  Mrs P. told us to stop lollygagging.  I think she put them in our backpacks."  When I finished laughing at my poor, sweet girl I explained the true meaning of lollygagging.

Moving Up

Abigail attended kindergarten registration this morning. We were there for 2 1/2 hours.  Most of the time was spent waiting for her to return from the screening.  When she finally did return, I was handed the form that was filled out during the screening.  I flipped through it to see if I could determine how well she performed.  Most of it was in code and didn't make any sense.  There was one handwritten note that said, "Talks constantly."  Yep, she's all mine.

Fan

Donny and I were discussing a nursery school teacher who has his photo on the bulletin board in her classroom.  I commented that she was his first fan.  "No she isn't.  Aunt Kee-Kee was my first fan."

Songs From Around the World

Donny's big night was last night.  The first grade children performed songs from around the world for their families.  Donny had been looking forward to this show since the first day the music teacher informed the kids about the performance.  He picked out his clothes, requested clothes for Abigail and brought me a dress from the closet that was entirely to dressy for a first grade concert. I had to promise to take him on a date and wear the dress in order to wear a different outfit to the school gym. Once we got in the car, Donny took random polls questioning who was excited to watch him sing,  votes were cast by a raised hand.  Big Daddy asked if we were allowed to scream his name.  Donny informed him that it wasn't allowed because it would interrupt the children.

I am pretty certain he felt it was his show and the other children were his back-up singers.  That boy performed like he was on Broadway and when he heard the applause his face lit up.  We are in big trouble.

Pin

During dinner last night, Donny asked Big Daddy if girls could pin boys like boys pin girls.  Big Daddy said, "Do you mean pin them down?"  Donny just rolled his eyes.  I knew where this was going and was trying not to laugh because Donny was very serious.  "No Daddy.  When they want to be a girlfriend."  Big Daddy looked at me for an explanation.  I referred to an earlier time when boys would pin their fraternity pin to the girls sweater when they were dating.  Big Daddy turned to Donny and asked where he received his information.  "From Gidget."

Little Lady

Abigail joined me today for grocery shopping.  She decided to wear her pretty swing coat and beret that Nanny made for her birthday.  I was stopped several times by shoppers and told how pretty Abigail looked and that she looked like a little lady and that's what little girls should look like when they dressed.  I felt bad because what all of these kind shoppers didn't know....Abigail had a secret.  There was something very scary lurking under her coat.  Abigail was wearing clothes from every season and every color.
Okay, let me break this down for you.  The black shrug, which Abigail refers to as her sharong, is covering her bare shoulders.  The "dress" that you see is actually a summer top that is held up by a string around her neck.  If you look closely, you will see the summer, size 2T, skort that is striped under her shirt.  Red winter tights complete the outfit.  That's my fashionista.

That's All Folks

Or at least I hope this is the last snow of the year. I had to push the kids outside to play and then I couldn't get them back in the house.  They were two tired little kids.

Eyeglasses

Abigail and I were in the car when she told me she couldn't see my eyelashes. "You can't see them because I'm wearing my eyeglasses, I mean sunglasses."  I explained that eyeglasses are worn to help some one read or see better. She started belly laughing. I asked her what was so funny and she replied, "Mommy, they're not called eyeglasses they are spectacles."  My kids are really 80 years old.

Rainbow

Donny ran off the bus and couldn't wait speak to me.  "MOM, we have to talk. Can we please in some March, March only, go to Ireland?"  "Oh you want to go and celebrate St. Patrick's Day."  "No, I don't know what that is. Anyway, we need to go and find a leprechaun and a rainbow.  Then there should be a pot of gold.  When we find that we can make a wish and I have a family wish.  You said you want to go to Europe. Oh ya, we also need a three leaf clover."  "First, it's a four leaf cover. Second, I'm going to need a bit to process your request."  "Okay mama, I love you."

Ooh La La

I took this photo of Abigail this morning before school. She was having such a good time playing. She was referring to herself as Parchay. "Abigail, do you mean Sharpay from High School Musical?" "Oh, yes Mommy."

New Love

Donny found his misplaced library card last week and couldn't wait to get to the library. I took the kids on Saturday and Donny ran into the building.  He asked one of the librarians if there were any books on Elvis that he hasn't already read.  This particular woman had not had the pleasure of meeting Donny yet.  She was shocked to find out he loved Elvis and almost squealed with delight. She slowly transformed into a teenager as she told the story of seeing Elvis in concert as a young woman.  As she was telling Donny the story of her youth, she remember a box filled with Elvis memorabilia and that's when we lost her.  She walked off in deep thought trying to remember where she put the box.  I am pretty sure she spent the rest of the weekend looking for that box.

Donny went off alone to search for a book.  He returned with Rock & Roll Generation:  Teen Life in the 50s.  Now all he wanted to do was get home and read his book.
He sat in a chair for two hours reading. At one point he ran into the kitchen to show me a picture of some really hot girls.   Below is the page of the really hot girls.

"Really hot girls"
Donny came to me later and asked if I knew of Gidget.  Do I?  I love Gidget and was so happy Donny wanted to know more, but didn't have time at the moment to discuss Gidget.  Imagine my surprise when Donny came to me tonight and asked if he could watch Gidget Goes to Rome.  Somebody has been doing research. He was very disappointed to learn Sandra Dee wasn't playing the part of Gidget but he did like the old cars.  I think Sandra Dee is his new love.

Box

The kids made a Jeep out of my new office chair box.

Office

Long ago I had an entire room to call my office. Donny moved into that room when I was about six months pregnant with Abigail and I have been working out of a backpack since. Well that has all changed. I now have a new office and I am so happy. Big Daddy spent his vacation converting his closet into my new office. Aren't I the luckiest girl?
