Maybe

I asked Abigail to get dressed yesterday morning and she returned from her room looking adorable. I made a comment about her appearance and reminded her that we were only going to the Dollar Store and the grocery.  "I know but we might run into Jake.  He might live in that town."  "You mean your boyfriend that doesn't know he's your boyfriend?"  "Yes Mommy. You never know."  I know my Grandmother would be proud of her for caring about her appearance when in public but I am not to happy that the boy thing is already starting. Oh, and no Jake was not shopping with his Mom but there is always the next time.

Sun

The sun finally came out on Saturday and we spent the entire day outside.  Abigail and I started the morning off shopping for more flowers.  I can't believe it is the middle of June and I still haven't' planted my hanging baskets. We came home and planted the baskets while the boys were off having their own fun.  Once we were all together it was play time and just having fun in the yard.

Last Days

I have always allowed the children to wear what they want as long as their outfits were not inappropriate.  Abigail has picked several great outfits to end the school year.  I loved what she chose for water day, which I posted in Gifts.  On her last day of school, she pulled all of her favorite pieces from her closet and created quite the look.

Her graduation was that night and I didn't think the wardrobe was going to be a problem because she picked out her outfit the week prior. She returned from school and went to her room chattering to herself.  I found her in her closet.  "What's wrong Abby?"  "I can't wear the dress.  We have to wear a hat so I can't wear my flower in my hair so I can't wear my dress."  Twenty minutes later we solved the problem, just remove the flower for the hat part and put it back in for the party.

I didn't think Donny would mind if I picked out his outfit, wrong.   He had his plan and I threw my hands up.  He shut his door and told me to wait and see for all of his handsomeness.   I was so relived when he came out of his room.  He was a bit upset when we made him remove his hat in church.

Reasons

I have often said that Donny is really an 80 year old man trapped in little boy's body.  He does so many random odd things that I have decided to start a list that I will update often.

  • Asking for hard boiled eggs and toast for breakfast.
  • Wearing black socks with shorts.
  • Recognizing and screaming out The Four Freshmen after hearing only four bars of a song.

Rainy Day

Once again it is raining. I really didn't want to get our pedicures on a rainy day but I did promise.  So off we went wet toes and all.  Abigail  proved to be quite entertaining today.  She usually gets a manicure and a pedicure which is much faster than my pedicure so Abigail is moved to the manicure location.  Now the funny thing is, the lady always picks Abigail up and carries her to the manicure station. After a few odd comments I realized Abigail thinks this is normal practice for all customers.  I had to explain to her the if Mommy were getting a manicure I would not be carried across the room, I would just walk.

The lady working on Abigail gave her a piece of hard candy and she put it in her pocket.  Later at home Abigail asked if she could eat the candy.  I told her to be careful because it was a choking hazard. "I can handle it Mommy.  I have had this choking hazard before."

Once in the car Abigail said, " Mommy did you know that next to the relaxing room where ladies put cucumbers on their eyes there is food?  I saw it."  I am not sure where she got her information about the relaxing room because I have never witnessed a lady in there with cucumbers on her eyes.

We rushed over to Donny's school when we were finished to sit with him for his last lunch for the school year.  The kids were crazy and loud.  I'm not sure if it was the rainy day or the end of the school year but it was a circus in that lunchroom.  When we were walking to the car I asked Abigail what she thought because she would be eating lunch there next year. "Those kids were just loud and naughty."

Channel 71

Donny and I were on our way to pick up Abigail and we were listening to the radio.  He asked me to change the channel to 71 Siriusly Sinatra.  A woman was singing.  Donny wanted to know who was singing.  "Donny you know who this is, it's Ro..." "Oh I know who this is, Rosemary Clooney. I love her." My old soul.

So Pretty

Abigail is obsessed with Barbie, but not the Barbie that you can find on the store shelves. Oh no, just like her brother she loves things of yesteryear. The Barbie Abigail prefers tells her best friend Midge all her dreams and secrets and loves to sing songs with Ken. I have to admit that I am much happier with the yesteryear Barbie as apposed to the stripper pole Barbie.

I was cooking dinner when Abigail requested a high pony like the picture of Barbie on the book.  So I granted her request and she returned to her room.   A few moments later she was back.  "Look at me. Doesn't this look like something Barbie would wear?"  I loved her outfit.  My favorite detail of the outfit was her hairclip that she attached to her skirt.  I am beginning to think she will have a career in fashion.

I couldn't get a clear picture because she was changing her pose so quickly.

Field Day

Today Donny participated in field day at school.  He was worried for days about the Hippity Hop relay race which consist of sitting on a ball and bouncing down the field.  His team came in fifth place and he was certain it was his fault. I tried to help him feel better but nothing worked until his next race.  He was the last to run in the relay and his team came in first.  He was so happy and I was/am so proud.

He just crossed the finish line.

Gifts

Abigail knew exactly what she wanted to give her teachers as a gift.  Every Wednesday Abigail has cooking class at school so she insisted I make the teachers aprons.  I took Abigail to the fabric store to choose fabric.  She was unbelievable.  That girl had a plan and was sticking to it.  She picked out bright colors for one teacher and darker colors for the other because that is what they wear to school.  She even changed the pattern.  She pointed to the picture on the pattern and asked if we could use a different fabric on the ruffle because it would look "fabulous."  She was so excited to hand them to the teachers today.

Project

I was working on a sewing project so Abigail was helping Big Daddy with a project of his own. I was so happy to finish that I wanted to show Abigail. I went outside and found the two of them in the driveway.  I don't think Abigail was dress for the work at hand.

New Ride

Abigail has a new ride thanks to the neighbors up the road.

Trivia

We play a trivia game almost every night during dinner.  Last night Abigail finished her dinner and went off to play while Donny and I continued with trivia.  I asked, "What did the suffragettes fight for?" and Donny replied "their rights."  "That is correct, but what specific right were they fighting for?"  And from the other room I hear Abigail, "To parrrty!"  I have recently introduced her to the wonderful sounds of the Beastie Boys.

Water

Donny and Abigail have been doing so well swimming that Big Daddy and I decided to buy a bigger pool this year. We were able to get the pool up last week after the rain.  While we were in the yard Big Daddy noticed there was a large amount of rainwater runoff.   If you look at the "yard" labels there are posts documenting the work Big Daddy did to drain the water in the yard. He installed a  drainage system under the grass.  All the pipes come together at a certain point.  It is at that point where Big Daddy was able to harness the water to fill the pool.  He is a genius!

The only problem, the water temperature was freezing.  Abigail got in for awhile before Donny returned from school, she didn't last long.  Donny came home and wanted to get in but didn't want to be alone. I was in the house with Abigail when I heard her say, "Daddy is hysterical."  She was looking out the window so I joined her to see what was so funny.  And there in the pool, my husband dressed for the Artic Sea.  Only at our house

Last Play

Abigail's first T-ball season came to an end today. I say first but am thinking it may be her last. She played and did really well, but her heart just wasn't into the game. Donny played at the playground.  He was beside himself when the DJ started to play music he couldn't wait to start dancing.  I told Abigail to pack an outfit to change into after the game.  We got to the car and she pulled out her tutu and a cloak, not what I had in mind.

Fancy

Abigail received a birthday invitation to a Fancy Nancy party. I sent Abigail to her room and requested she dress like Fancy Nancy. I didn't want to influence her decision, I felt she would do a better job if I left her alone.  She returned looking fabulous. I think the highlight of the party was the chocolate fountain.  Abigail did really well until chocolate from her pretzel dripped on her top.  She was so embarrassed.
When we returned from the party, Abigail saw our neighbor in the backyard talking to Big Daddy.  She started to run and say hello and then she stopped in her tracks and looked down.  She turned around and ran into the house.  By the time I found her she was already in a new outfit and on her way out the door.  She didn't want to greet Mr. K in a chocolate stained top.

Field Trip

As the school years comes to an end the calendar becomes quite full of special days.  Last week Abigail's class spent the morning in town.  We started at the library and then walked to the police station.  The officer was very kind and allowed each child to sit in the patrol car and say hello on the speaker and then push every button that made a loud noise finally he gave them the mic again to say goodbye. I am certain the townspeople were wondering what all the excitement was about.  We ended the trip at the pizza shop where the little ones filled their tummies.

Notice that one lucky fella in the middle.

Pie

Abigail and I made a blueberry pie last night. The pie only contains four ingredients yet it took us 45 minutes to assemble. I grabbed my phone to take a picture of Abigail baking with Mommy. I noticed she was about to whisk the blueberries. "No honey you will bruise the berries." "Mommy I'm not really doing it. I was just getting ready for the picture."

Shorts Please

I asked Donny to get dressed so we could leave for Abigail's T-ball game on Saturday morning. He returned wearing the outfit in the photo. It was 8:00 and already very hot. I had to fight with him to change his clothes. He would only change the shirt to a t-shirt and wore the jeans. As we were leaving the field and he was covered in sweat and red in the face he said, "I should have listened to you mama, I'm hot." I think we all know I said I told ya so.

Hot

The kids and I attended the last family fun day given at the preschool Abigail attends. We have been going to this picnic since Donny was three. Today was very hot and Donny played so hard his hair was wet with sweat. I promised the kids they could play in the little pool in the yard when we returned from the picnic. Those plans were cancelled when the thunderstorms began. I had opened all the window because the air temperature was dropping.  Very quickly the wind picked up and the rain and hail were hitting the house  sideways.  I started to run around and close all the windows well I must have scared Donny.  He started following me yelling, "We're going to die, we're going to die!"  Abigail was slightly annoyed and told Donny it was only rain and we weren't going to die. Shortly after the storm started we lost our power.  I managed to get us dinner but my big worry was bath time, no power...no water.

We were sitting at the table when I realized the sky was blue.  I told the kids to finish their dinner and get naked.  I put them in the pool in the backyard and soaped them up.  I finished rinsing them just as the thunder started.
One very hot little boy.
