The Game

I informed Abigail there was a t-ball game tonight and she replied, "I'm sorry Mommy that game's just not for me."

Oil Drum

We have a lot of logs and large limbs placed all over the yard from the storms over the past two years.   Big Daddy and his buddy spent about a week welding and sculpting a oil drum into a new incinerator for the yard to burn all of the wood.  I am thinking of having a pig roast when the yard is finally free of downed trees.

Bus

I told Abigail to get ready because we were going to get Donny off the bus. She returned from her room looking like this...
Friday

Great Day

Today was pretty darn wonderful.  Big Daddy and the kids went out of their way to give me a lovely birthday.   I slept in until 7:00. I did wake a bit earlier when I heard the sound of little feet in the hall but they went pasted my door and straight to Donny's room.  "Donny, Donny, Donny wake up.  Today is mommy's birthday."  Then four little feet were off.  I fell asleep waiting for them to return.  The kids were waiting for me with hand made cards when I finally got out of bed.

We went out for dinner to celebrate.  Abigail to one look at my outfit and ran to her room.  She returned with a headband. "Mommy this would look so pretty with your clothes."  How do I say no to that?  So I went to dinner with a gigantic flower/golf ball sticking out the side of my head.   Big Daddy and the kids made me a banana cake with chocolate frosting for dessert.  Hands down one of my best days ever.  Thanks family!
Abigail insisted that I borrow her headband for the evening so I wore it to dinner.

My banana cake with chocolate frosting.  And one of those candles is for good luck.

True or False

Very often while we are having dinner I will read trivia questions to the kids.  We had dinner out tonight to celebrate my birthday.  Donny brought along the President trivia cards so we could play.  One of the questions was about JFK.  "I was the first President to be assassinated while in office."  True or False.  When Donny answered false with such confidence, Big Daddy and I looked at each other with pride and then he said, "It's false because he was in the car when he was shot not his office."

Fishing Derby

Big Daddy and Donny went to the Cub Scout fishing Derby after Abigail's t-ball game. Donny was so excited when he found out the boys were going to pick up empty shotgun shells before lunch. Big Daddy wasn't quite as happy since he was handed the extra large black bag to carry. The scouts dumped their shells into Big Daddy's bag which was later weight to determine which group won with the heaviest garbage bag. The boys went fishing after lunch. Unfortunately, my boys had to leave early. Apparently between opening day, picking up shells and fishing it was just to much for my little man. He was done.

Opening Day

Saturday was opening day for Little League.  Abigail was more concerned about her pink hair extension she received Friday at school from a friend than playing in her first t-ball game.  She did very well and had a great time.  Donny watched her play for about five minutes before he asked if he could go to the playground.  Abigail asked if she could go to the playground after the first inning.  She didn't quite understand the concept of a full game.

She was more concerned with her pink hair extension than anything happening around her that day.

Birthmark

Donny came to me in a panic and wanted to know how Abigail could grow new birthmarks so fast. "Abigail did you put my makeup on?" "Yes I did."

Magic

I was driving Abigail to school this morning when she asked me, "Mama, is magic real?"  "Well, yes it is magic.  I'm not sure what you are asking me.  Maybe if you asked me a different way I could give you a better answer."  And then in a very low, scratchy voice Abigail said, "Mama, is magic real?"

Wipe Out

Abigail came to me today and asked me to do a wipe out. After many questions, I realized that she wanted me to blow out her hair like Ann Margaret. (Her reference not mine.) So off we went and twenty minutes later she was posing for a picture. Each time I snapped a photo she turned, "Get my whole head please."

He Did It

Big Daddy and I have been trying to convince Donny to join Cub Scouts for months. We finally talked him into going to a meeting to see if he would enjoy himself.   He returned from the first meeting high as a kite on his first taste of Hawaiian Punch.  He was sold.  Donny and Big Daddy made a car just in time for his first Pinewood Derby and did very well.  Donny came in second overall.  He had his first Den meeting today and couldn't wait to go to school wearing his new shirt.

Nightly Reading

Donny requested I read the Elvis catalog tonight for his nightly reading. I challenge you to read the descriptions of a catalog and not sound the announcer from the Price Is Right when he is describing a prize. I almost lost it when Donny asked, "Ooh, please read about the Blue Hawaii Drinkware!"

Little Lady

Abigail's teacher met us at the minivan this morning at drop off.  I opened the door for Abigail and the teacher told her to jump and Abigail replied, "I don't jump."  She casually got out of the van and said goodbye.  The teacher said, "I bet you have someone jump for you."  What am I going to do with my little lady?

Greeks and Romans

Every morning just as we are about to walk through the door to catch the bus, Donny freaks out and insists on grabbing something to take to school with him. Friday he pulled his normal routine and grabbed a large atlas that weights about five pounds. I told him he couldn't take it to school and after a bit of a fight he gave in and put down the atlas.   Next he grabbed his Bible and once again I said no.  The bus was just minutes away so I grabbed a book from his room about the Greeks and Romans and shoved it in his backpack.

When Donny returned from school, I found a brown envelope containing the Greek and Roman book with the following note attached:

Ready For Spring

Dinner Conversation

Dinner the past few nights has been quite entertaining.  We had beets with dinner the other night and the rule at our table is that everyone must try everything.  Abigail dug in and ate her beets and didn't say much.  Donny on the other hand began a melodrama of reasons why he shouldn't eat the beets.  Putting her fork down and looking Donny in the eye Abigail said, "Donny quit whining and just eat the beets." I wish I had it on film because the three of us just looked at her for a moment then the room was full of laughter and Donny ate the beets.

Tonight Donny was once again stalling to eat his meatloaf.  We reminded him of Abigail's comment about the beet and he said, "I did find that adorable."  We all had a good laugh and then Abigail decided to change the subject and tell Donny about Heaven. "Abigail stop talking about this nonsense, it makes me nervous."  These kids crack me up!
