My Mother

I have copied the following from my Mother's Facebook page.  It was too good not to repost!

Once again, this could only happen on Harrison Street. I was awakened by shouts from my husband with "CALL 911, CALL 911!!!!!..so I called 911 and while I was waiting for an answer, I was yelling at him "ABOUT WHAT, ABOUT WHAT!!!! while running down the stairs. The light in the front hall was on, the hall tree was knocked over and the front door was standing open and there was a guy standing on t...he sidewalk facing the house. He had on a Carhart jacket with the hood up. I didn't have my glasses on and did I mention just two hours earlier I had had a healthy dose of Nyquil? Well the guy I thought was Ted, wouldn't answer me and started to run north on Harrison Street and I'm on the phone with dispatch running after him still yelling "ABOUT WHAT?!?!" Then it occurred to me. Ted can't run that fast, so I tell the lady dispatcher---maybe it is about the guy who is running down the street. I run back in the house and meet my husband peering around the corner with a gun in his hand. I shoved the phone in his hand and tell him to talk to dispatch, because I have no clue what is going on. After blah, blah, blah on the phone with the dispatcher he hands the phone back to me and tells me there is an officer outside, go talk to them. I run outside in my brand new christmas socks that are wet and dirty now and I still don't know what had happened. THEN he comes out and talks to Police. They have caught the "Perp" and wanted Ted to ID him. I went in the house and found the guys ski mask on the floor and under it was todays paper. He had brought the paper in.
Ted said he heard a commotion in the front hall and thought it was one of the cats, or two or three...anyway, there stood the guy waving his hand up and down (as an Elephant would his trunk) towards the hall tree. Ted kept telling him to get out and he wouldn't leave, so Ted said "This isn't your house " and the guy said" You're right". Ted said "I'm going to get a gun" that's when he woke me up with "Call 911!" He said he passed me on the stairs and said there was an intruder, but, I don't think so.
The whole episode was like a "Chinese Fire Drill". The poor guy was just very drunk and got into the wrong house..I'm sure he is paging through the phone book for some therapy he can get into and I'll probably have pneumonia tomorrow.
I'm going back to bed. I just noticed...I'm fully dressed.

Ready for the Big Guy

Sprinkling reindeer food and leaving carrots for Santa's reindeer.

Quick photo break.

Cookies, milk and pictures for Santa.

Name Tag

Donny the Elf left the children names tags for their presents and left a note asking they write their names on the tags for Santa. They are just a bit excited!!!

FYI

Our Elf left several messages on the mirror for the kids.  I made a comment that Santa was a bit bossy and Donny replied, "Of course he's bossy, he's God's mailman."

Wedding

Once the kids trashed the kitchen with operation cookie they decided to leave me the mess and go play. I was cleaning the cookie mess when I heard them walk down the hall negotiating the upcoming wedding. Abigail wanted a kiss and Donny said it could not be on the lips, cheek only. They were all dressed and ready to go. I love that Donny used Abigail's hair bow as his bow tie. Donny presented her with a bouquet of flowers and she curtsied. Abigail demanded to Waltz and Donny followed the Waltz with the Tango. Abigail became angry with Donny because his Tango was to fast so Donny got upset and called off the wedding. I was able to snap this photo.

Cookies

I attempted to bake cookies with the kids and it did not end well.  Donny decided he wanted to make cupcakes rather than cookies. Abigail found it more fun to crumble the dough than cut out cookies.  Next time I will bake the cookies and let the kids decorate.  How bad can that be?

Special Visit

We were very lucky to have our nephew spend the night with us for a short visit. We decided not to tell the kids and let them find him when they woke. Abigail asked why Daddy was sleeping on the couch. When I told her it wasn't Daddy she ran across the room and jumped in a chair. Donny decided to take a closer look and realized it was his cousin.  Donny turned around and gave me the happiest toothless smile. Although the visit was short, everyone had a wonderful time and there was enough time to play Princess Yahtzee with Abigail and Battleship with Donny.
I am not sure why my flash made everyone's eyes an odd color.

Hound Dog

I was so excited to give Donny his birthday presents before school today. Donny opened his blue suede shoes and Elvis t-shirt and I waited for the shouts of joy.  Instead I heard, "Shoes and clothes? Who gets shoes and clothes for their birthday?  Who does that?" He was so upset and I dumbfounded I thought he would love his gifts.  Abigail saved the day when she gave him a 1956 Matchbox car. He did wear his new shirt and shoes to school so I think his day did get better.  The highlight of his day was seeing the birthday sign his elf was holding.

Elvis cupcakes.

Blue Suede Shoes

The best photo I could get of Donny in his Elvis t-shirt and blue suede shoes.

Donny and Abigail decided to leave Elf Donny notes to take to the North Pole and deliver to Santa.

Found

I found these pictures on my camera. I took them in October when we were on Abigail's class pumpkin picking trip. This was the fifth and last year for us, Abigail will change schools next year.

The Bug

Donny walked off the bus and asked if he could take a bath and go to bed.  I immediately took his temperature and confirmed that he was sick. He remembered a very important paper his teacher gave him as he was undressing for his bath.  The school sent a note home informing the parents the flu has reared it's ugly head at school.  I spoke to Donny's teacher and there were seven of Donny's classmates out today. I am just praying we can contain it to just on victim in our home.

Donny decided to watch an Elvis documentary after his bath.  He paused it every thirty seconds to take picture of Elvis.

Bath

Powder

This is what happens when I leave these two alone for too long.

What Do You Want

We stopped at a McDonald's on our way home from Stockbridge yesterday.  I ordered the kids apple juice and apple slices and a coke for myself.  The woman gave me a cup and the three of us walked to the soda machine.  As I was filling my cup Donny said, "Mama can I please have hic."  I asked him to repeat himself several times and I couldn't figure out what he wanted until he pointed to the soda machine.  I realized that he was asking for HI-C. I had a very proud mommy moment because he didn't know what he was asking.  He has never tasted HI-C or hic.

Home For Christmas

Stockbridge, Massachusetts is the small town featured in Norman Rockwell's painting Home For Christmas.  Every year the town transforms and recreates the scene in the painting for one weekend in December. The kids and I took a road trip today to check out the town and have a little Christmas fun.

Ornaments

I made a batch of salt dough for the kids to make Christmas ornaments.  They made a huge mess and there was glitter everywhere, but we had fun and they did make some cute ornaments.  I think we will paint them today.

Pan the Man

Donny and I were snuggling when he told me he was having sad feelings.  "Winter is coming soon.  I will be turing seven.  I'm scared mama, I don't want to grow up."  My little man feels so deep. I promised him he was still my little boy and would be forever.

New Do

Donny went to the barber armed with several pictures of Elvis and the result was very handsome.  He even has tiny sideburns.

TuTu

Abigail spent the day wearing her bathing suit. I didn't try to stop her. Why? She had so much fun.

Play Time

I overheard the kids playing and had a nice laugh. They were calling each other Ann Margret and Elvis.  I am pretty certain I have the only two children in the tri-state area to role play people from the 1960's.

Always On His Mind

I love going through Donny's work folder at the end of each day. I never know what wonderful little nuggets I will find. Most of the notes I find are about his idol. I found this today.

First Grade

Donny studied a photo of Elvis very similar to the one below before picture day at school. Donny also chose his outfit for the day.
