Storm

A nasty storm came through last night. I sat on the porch and watched it come over the mountain. The clouds were incredible.

Play Day

I declared today a play day.  Big Daddy took Donny to the river yesterday to play in the water and try fishing. Things didn't go the way Big Daddy wanted.   The biggest problem was finding a path to get to the river.  By the time they got to the water it was mostly play and very little fishing.  Donny wanted to go back again today, so before the two of them left, Big daddy went to the river with his weed whacker and made a path.  They had a much better time today.  Meanwhile, Abigail and I ran to Walmart to get a pool and some fishing poles.  I am hoping for good weather tomorrow so we can take the kids fishing.

The kids love this little pool.  Abigail is hiding under the net.  Thanks Aunt Stephanie for your suggestion.

Military Museum

The kids are finally feeling better so I decided to get them out of the house today.   We went to a small military museum in Connecticut and I would like to thank my friend Anne for the great tip.  The museum was the perfect size for my little ones.  There was a man standing at the front desk who eagerly offered to show us around and whisked the kids away before I could decline. Did I mention that he did not work there?  I felt the man was just a bit too friendly with Donny, but mama stayed very close.  He really ticked me off when I would ask Donny a question.  For some reason, the man felt the need to answer without giving Donny a chance.  Donny finally told him he knew the answer but didn't get to say it in time.  My favorite moment of the day came when Donny saw a wounded solider in a bunker.  He put his back against the little window to prevent Abigail from seeing the solider. Abigail took a peek in the window and said, "Hey Mom, take my picture next to the dead guy."

School

Donny finally went back to school today.  I found out there were two confirmed cases of walking pneumonia in his class.  We really got lucky with Donny.  I think his daily breathing treatments helped keep his lungs clear.  We took both kids to the doctor yesterday and Donny's pulse-ox was the highest it has ever been in the doctors office.  Abigail is still running a high fever, but I think today will be the last day.  Things are good.

What Is It?

The kids have had a high fever for days.  I took them to the doctor yesterday figuring they probably had ear infections.  On the drive over, I looked in the rear view mirror to see Donny covered in blood.  His nose was bleeding and he decided to use his pants to wipe the blood.  I threw him a towel and he used it for about a minute before he threw it against the window. He grabbed a plastic bag and proceeded to wipe blood all over the bag which just slid off the bag onto him.  I finally pulled over to assist him and convince him to hold the towel that reclaimed gently against his nose.  By the time we reached the doctor he was a bloody mess.  The doctor took one look at him and couldn't figure out what happened.  Because he was sitting in his car seat there was no blood from his shoulders to his knees. What a mess, my car looks like a crime scene.

The doctor examined both of them and nothing. Ears and throat were clear and he couldn't really hear anything in their lungs.  The doctor sent us to the hospital for chest xrays to check for pneumonia.  Abigail cannot see Donny when we are in the car because he sits behind her.  We were sitting in the radiology waiting area when she finally looked at him.  The look on her face was priceless, I had to remind her of the nose bleed.  The xray came back clear so we went back to the office to pick up a script for blood work.  Luckily for me the Ibuprofen had worn off both of them and they were delirious.  We walked into the lab and I told the lady behind the desk that the munchkins had no idea what we were doing.  She took us to room to draw the blood.  As soon as we walked in Donny started referring to himself as Donny Boy.  "Donny Boy doesn't like it here.  Donny Boy thinks we should leave."   Both kids did very well and we headed home.

Most of the blood work results came back negative.  We are still waiting for one test.  As of this morning, Abigail was at 104 and Donny at 101.  I'm not sure what to do next.

Mother Of The Year

Donny had the day off school yesterday so he was able to come with me to drop Abigail off at school.  He told me on the way he wanted to teach Abigail's class since he is now six years old and very smart.  He decided that math would be a good start then realized math might bore the children so he would go to Home Depot with me to pick out flowers.

The flowers were located outside and the weather was quite nice.  Donny complained that he was cold so I told him to stand in the sun.  Then he started to speak like Jimmy on Seinfeld.  "Donny boy is cold.  Donny boy wants to go home.  Donny boy needs a snack."  I told Donny boy to stop talking so much so Mommy could think.  He said, "Donny boy thinks you're mean."

We stopped in Kohl's for a minute and he was burping repeatedly, a talent he has recently acquired and takes great pride doing.  We were checking out when he said, "Donny boy thinks he's going to throw up."  I told Donny boy to stop burping and things would get better.

By the time we returned home, he was fighting with me about everything.  I stopped and took a moment to think.  I took his temperature and felt like the worst mother, 103.5.  Way to go mom!

Therapy

Abigail was sitting on Big Daddy's lap.  She was facing him with her legs over his legs.  He was putting her shirt on getting her ready for school.  "Hey Daddy." "Yes Abigail?"  "Our tinklers are touching."  I think Big Daddy is going to need years of therapy to get over that one.

****I didn't think I needed to mention it but I will, both parties in the story above were clothed.

My Bad

Big Daddy and I were so excited for Abigail's first parent teacher conference scheduled for Wednesday.  We decided to drive separately, I would go ahead with Abigail and Big Daddy would meet me before the 9:20 meeting.  At 9:15 I started to get nervous because Big Daddy had yet to arrive.  I tend to get very upset if we are late for anything and it puts me in a very nasty mood which Big Daddy is well aware.  So when I texted him and he replied that he had just left (a 20 minute drive) you can only imagine how quickly my mood changed.  I called him and was and he answered the phone laughing.  He was just kidding and he was around the corner.

I gave him a lecture and off we went.  The school director greeted us as we walked into the building.  "You're back."  "Yes, we are hear for Abigail's conference."  The look on her face was all I needed.  We weren't late at all, in fact we were a week early.  I don't know what I was thinking.  I even had the proper date on the calendar.  Needless to say, Big Daddy just loved my big mistake and I'm sure it will come up often for awhile.  It really sucks to be wrong.

94%

I found Donny's math test in his backpack and was thrilled to see his grade. "Donny, great job on your math test!  You got a 94%." He replied, "94%?  What happended?"  I guess he has really high standards.  Big Daddy and I had quite a chuckle to his reaction.  Let's just hope this is always the case.

Good Weekend

The family came up for the weekend and what a weekend! The rain finally stopped and the weather was perfect. We started Saturday morning with T-ball and ended with Theresa Caputo. A perfect Mother's Day weekend.

Mother's Day

I spent Friday morning with my little lady.  Her teaches hosted a Mother's Day tea.  The mother's were presented with lovely flower pins the children made and a little plant.  When I asked Abigail what flower she planted she replied, "Let it grow and see."  The children preformed several songs for us, which was just adorable.  But my very favorite present was a quote from Abigail, I posted a photo of the quote below.

That afternoon when Donny returned got off the bus, he couldn't wait to present me with my Mother's Day gifts.  The first gift was a very cute card.  Below are two pages from my card.  He also made me a very pretty necklace and gave me a sunflower plant.  I don't think I could love any gifts more than the ones I received this Mother's Day.
Thank heavens age is just a number.

Apparently, Donny hears "really good things" when my sister and I talk on the phone.

Bacon

The bacon I made for breakfast was very crispy.  I dropped a piece on the floor and it shattered.  As I was cleaning it up with the little broom and dustpan, I asked Abigail if she would like a piece.  She looked at me with disgust and replied, "No thanks mom, you can just throw that in the garbage."

He Did It!!

I am so proud of Donny!!  After weeks of swim lessons, everything came together today.  He finally swam alone and realized he could succeed.  I can't wait until next week to see what happens.  Even Abigail gave him a giant hug when he got out of the pool.  (Sorry about the video, I can't seem to film properly.)

Exercise

According to Donny's friend at school, I have big buns.  I MUST start exercising, these kids are killing me.
